My Focus

Paying attention to God in all of life

One of my favourite things to do is to journey alongside others, listening to their stories, and seeking to see and understand where God is at work and what invitations He has for them in the midst of their everyday lives, exploring His love, grace and leading. Having received spiritual direction myself for the past 16 years and seeing the benefits in my own life firsthand, along with discerning a call to the ministry myself, I completed a 3 year course through Emmaus Formation Centre to receive a certificate in Spiritual Direction.

I've worn many hats over the years and have a varied background having worked for my parents' grocery store, as a marketing manager at a financial company in Vancouver, taking courses at Regent College, having been on staff at my church as the Director of Small Groups and then Director of Women's Leadership, as well as a stay-at-home mom, and numerous volunteer positions with my church and my kids' schools. These diverse experiences give me the ability to understand the many different life situations that come our way. I'm thankful God can redeem and use all of our life experiences - the good, the bad, and the ugly - for His Kingdom purposes in His timing and in His ways.

When not engaged in spiritual direction, volunteering, or looking after my family, I love to go for walks with our dog, talk and pray with friends, play games and do puzzles with my kids, watch CFL football with my husband, kayak at my parents' cabin, and read (preferably while sipping tea and eating chocolate!).

"Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery that it is. In the boredom and pain of it no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it because in the last analysis all moments are key moments,

and life itself is grace."

About
Deeply Rooted Spiritual Direction

Deeply Rooted Spiritual Direction reflects my desire for myself and others to grow in attentiveness and relationship with God, living out of the reality that we are God's beloved children, are made in His image for relationship with Himself and one another, and responding to His love, leading and grace.

As Henri Nouwen has said, “…God wants to find us as much, if not more, than we want to find God.”

Why "Deeply Rooted"?

I believe it's important to be deeply rooted in three things...

In Christ

We live and move and have our being in Christ.

In Scripture

God has revealed Himself to us through His Word.

In Community

We were made to live in community with God and one another.

"Let your roots grow down into Jesus, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness." - Colossians 2:6-7 (NLT)

"Shannon listens well and is skilled at reframing my rambling thoughts so that they start to make sense.  She is patient, encouraging, and very discerning."

- Directee

"I feel very blessed to have Shannon's direction help me discern God's presence and desire for my life.  My relationship with and love for the Lord have grown stronger and deeper."

- Directee

"Shannon delights in God and is attentive to God's Presence in Spiritual Direction sessions...She offers her directees a safe, welcoming space where they can openly share about their lives with God and connect with God in their sessions."
